Vallis Schroteri – 2005 04 21

Vallis Schroteri (Rukl 18). I was quite excited about this one as I remember other sketches and photos of the appearance of the snake next to Aristarchus. This was to be my first time viewing it at high magnification with the big fella. Although the snakehead is at the SE end of the valley, the way the lighting played in this area the valley almost could have extended straight through to Herodotus. There is a section below Herodotus that forked out like a snake tongue to compliment the view. Vallis Schroteri is to be the largest sinus valley on the moon, 160km long and 1000m maximum depths. The “Cobra” head is near 10km and the body narrows to 500m.
